Hello everyone, this is my first GWS thread. I will try to share a classic Swedish fish reciepe with you, so please tell me if my post lacks for some essential details.

The dish of the day is fried herring with mashed potatoes, lingonberry jam and butter.

I start out with a picture of the ingredients, some of them are rather local, but could probably be substituted. Butter is one of the centerpieces of this dish, so if you do not eat butter, find another recipe.

You need: -Fresh fileted herring or other small fish that is cheap where you live. -Salted, room-tempered butter, do not substitute the butter, you will be disappointed. -Salt and ground pepper. -Stale bread or breadcrumbs. -Fresh parsley -Milk -Beer (for the chef) -Potatoes that are good for mashing -Wheat flour -Lingonberry jam, can probably be substituted for some other tart jam (is there cranberry jam? if there is, that might work)

Begin with peeling chopping and boiling the potatoes in salted water. Open the beer and sit on the porch a while as this takes some time.
