Here's a really simple recipe for ya'll. These are my favorite cookies (tied with oatmeal raisin).

not pictured: eggs and butter

Ingredients:[edit]

  • 1/2 cup Butter (1 stick) (or leave out butter and use an extra 1/2 cup Crisco)
  • 1/2 cup Vegetable Shortening (Crisco Butter Flavor)
  • 1 cup Brown sugar, Light, Packed
  • 1/2 cup Granulated Sugar
  • 2 large Eggs
  • 3 tsp Vanilla extract
  • 2 3/4 cup All-Purpose Flour
  • 2 tsp Baking Powder
  • 1 tsp Salt

I'm halving the recipe because I don't need 4 dozen cookies.

First mix the white sugar, brown sugar, butter (you might have to soften it in the microwave first), crisco, and eggs.

Blended! I do it by hand because I don't have a mixer, but I imagine it would make it easier.

Next add the flour and the baking powder. Some cookie recipes recommend mixing these together first. I imagine this assures the that baking powder gets evenly distributed.

Now refrigerate the dough for at least three hours!

Before you start preparing the cookies, preheat the oven to 375.

Next make dough balls and put M&M's on top. This is the fun part! I like to make patterns. Some of these don't have patterns because I was decorating them in the dark (I was watching tv with friends). Place the cookies about 3 inches apart on the pan.

Bake for 10-15 minutes. It's very important that you pull the cookies out at the right time. If you want a softer cookie (mmmm), pull them out when the just start to turn a golden brown. For a crunchier cookie, wait till they are a little darker.

This is what my batch looked like when I pulled them. I wish I would have pulled them a minute sooner, but they will still be soft in the middle.

Don't they look tasty?

My favorite things about these cookies is that they are really colorful. Also, you can control how much chocolate you have in every bite. I don't like cookies with lots of chocolate. If you do, you can mix M&Ms or chocolate chips into your dough.

And here is a super close-up!
