Okay, this is a first for me on a lot of levels so please bear with me. Luckily Mommie Dearest and KiwiBoi were kind enough to tell me how to post images. Yahoo, for learning new things. Now I can terrorize all of you with my cooking in Technicolor. Anyway, quick disclaimer. I don't do gourmet food. I make peasant food that is very good, or at least I think so, and so do the people I make it for.

There you have it and my first entry into IC:SA. Baked beans. I'll be making these for the Super Bowl this year since the Eagles aren't going to make it. Stupid team. Anyway, enjoy the beans.

This recipe isn't an original, but rather one I saw on Food Nation with Bobby Flay, brought to you by Bobby Flay and hosted by Bobby Flay. (c) 2004 by Bobby Flay Productions. I liked the simplicity and decided to give it a try. It's definitely the best recipe for baked beans I've ever found. Give it a try and let me know what you think.

Preheat[edit]

Preheat oven to 360 degrees

Ingredients[edit]

  • 2 32 Oz. Cans Bush's Baked Beans
  • 1 Lg. Yellow Onion
  • 6 Ozs. Brown Sugar
  • 1/4 Cup Yellow Mustard
  • 1 Cup Ketchup + more for garnish
  • Salt
  • Pepper
  • 7 Strips Uncooked Bacon

Bb1.jpg

Method[edit]

  • Start by slicing up your onion. I like to cut the ends off of mine so that they lay flat while I chop them into little bits.

Bb2.jpg

  • Here they are all nicely chopped up. I don't use my Wusthof's unless there is some serious chopping to be done, so please don't rail on me for using a plate as a cutting board. These are throw aways.

Bb3.jpg

  • Now we stir them in so that they are all nice and spread around.

Bb4.jpg

  • Next, measure out your brown sugar and pack it in there good. You don't want to have it loose or your measurements will be off.

Bb5.jpg

  • Add the sugar to the beany oniony goodness.

Bb6.jpg

  • Gratuitous photo of my "captive" audience. Wife not pictured as she's chained to the bed (actually, she's taking these pictures for me).

Bb7.jpg

  • Time to add the ketchup.

Bb8.jpg

  • Mustard is next.

Bb9.jpg

  • Now give that all a nice stir. We're almost done. Not pictured adding salt and pepper. If you can't do that, then you've got issues.

Bb10.jpg

  • Oh yes, this wouldn't be complete without the deliciousness of bacon. It actually makes all the difference.

Bb11.jpg

  • Don't forget the garnish. It's so purdee.

Serving[edit]

  • Our finished product.

Bb13.jpg

  • While this was baking, I fired up the grill and made us some hotdogs to act as a "main" dish. The hotdogs are actually more of a side dish when these beans get made. You can even put them on the hotdogs if you're feeling adventurous. I wasn't.

  • There you have it and my first entry into IC:SA. Baked beans. I'll be making these for the Super Bowl this year since the Eagles aren't going to make it. Stupid team. Anyway, enjoy the beans.
