This is a really easy, tasty recipe for buttermilk biscuits which come out lighter and softer than where you'd get at a fast-food place.
Ingredients[edit]
- 2 cups flour
- 2 1/2 tsp baking powder
- 1 tsp baking soda
- 1 pinch salt (optional)
- 1 1/2 tbsp white sugar, or to taste
- 1 stick (1/2 cup) of butter, frozen
- 1 cup buttermilk
Instructions[edit]
Mix all of the dry ingredients together. With a handheld cheese grater, grate the frozen butter in. With a large fork, or other pronged stirry instrument, mash everything together until the mixture has become course and crumbly. Mix in the buttermilk. Stir until well blended.
On a flour-dusted surface, roll out the dough to about 1/2 inch thickness or so. Using a small glass or biscuit cutter, cut out about 12 or 13 biscuits. Lightly grease a cookie sheet, and let them sit for about 15 minutes. Meanwhile, preheat the oven to 400 degrees Fahrenheit. Bake for 15 minutes.
These taste excellent with a light dab of butter or honey.
