Preheat[edit]
- Preheat oven to 350 Degrees
Ingredients[edit]
- 3 Cups of All Purpose Flour
- 2/3 Lb of Butter (Margarine works nowhere near as well)
- 3/4 Cup of Icing Sugar (Powdered Sugar)
- 4-5 BOILED Egg Yolks
- 1Kg (2.2 Lbs) Apples, peeled and chopped
To Taste, generally around a half a cup of these ingredients makes for a nice balance
- Brown Sugar
- Cinnamon
- Vanilla (Extract or fresh)
- Raisins
- Chopped Orange and/or lemon peel
Method[edit]
Base
- Seperate and boil your egg yolks
- Combine the yolks, flour, butter and icing sugar
- Knead the dough mixture until fully mixed, then place in the fridge for 10 minutes or so
- Divide the dough in half, saving one ball for later
- Roll the first ball out until you have a rectangle approximately 1/3 of an inch thick
- Place on a cookie sheet and bake for 10 minutes, leaving it aside on a rack to cool for at least 10 minutes
Filling
- Mix the apples, brown sugar and anything else you chose from the "to taste" section until thoroughly blended
- Spread the mixture evenly over the first baked rectangle
Cover
- Roll out your second lump of dough to the same thickness and use it to cover the entire thing
- Bake at 350 Degrees until it's golden brown (About 15-20 Minutes) then slice and dust the entire thing with icing sugar.
Presentation[edit]
- Best served warm
- As with anything apple pie-ish this goes great with a topping of Ice Cream
- Though I've never tried it I would imagine a caramel sauce on top of this would be amazing
